Off-Road adventure
UAZ SUVs, map and GPS – how many checkpoints can you find?
Off-road adventure – car orienteering, where teams aim to find as many checkpoints as possible in nature within a given time. The team that collects the most checkpoints wins.
The vehicles used are classic and reliable UAZ SUVs. Teams navigate by map and GPS.
At the starting point the participants will be divided into teams and there will be an introduction to the map, GPS and the peculiarities of the UAZ SUV.
Cars will start on the track with 3–5-minute intervals. The checkpoints are marked by plaques attached to trees in the forest with the number of the checkpoint and a password.
Teams have to find these plaques and write down the passwords. What with driving the car, tracking the map and actually finding the checkpoints with the GPS device, there is plenty to keep the whole team busy. This is a rogain-type competition, which means that there are more checkpoints in the area than you can actually find in the allotted time. Planning your team’s strategy and making the right choices is therefore crucial.
Each checkpoint is accessible by forest roads, so there is no need to worry about brutal destruction of nature. However, a large part of these roads are in very poor condition and the use of SUVs as a means of transport is fully justified.
At the finish, we will tally up the points and work out the placing
